The mission of the Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE) is to maintain and enhance the quality of life of Tribal Members and future generations. The TDHE accomplishes its mission through programs and projects that are designed to promote the social, environmental, community, and economic development on the White Earth Reservation.

Mission

White Earth Housing Authority was established in 1963 to help enrolled members & descendants to get affordable housing. Under Housing and Urban Development, White Earth Housing Authority has quite a few programs to help with affordable housing, home repair programs, and home loan programs.

Maintenance

White Earth Housing Authority will respond to after hour emergency calls for major maintenance problems. WEHA has determined these situations to be of emergency nature and require immediate assistance:

  • Electrical outlet smoking or sparking/Electrical situation that could result in shock or fire
  • Escaping gas from gas stove/natural gas leak or fumes
  • Major plumbing leaks or flooding/overflowing toilet
  • No Heat when outside temperature is below 50 degrees
  • Utilities not working/not due to "shut-off" for non-payment

Owner Occupied Rehab

White Earth Housing Authority applies for various grants through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other funding agencies, to provide grants to home owners for home improvements. These grants are very competitive and White Earth Housing Authority has been very fortunate to receive these grants.

Tenant Services

Tenant services offers a couple of different programs for affordable housing; Low Rent and Tax Credit. Low Rent is a program to help families with low income to get affordable housing. Tax Credit is a program that helps a families get into affordable housing.

Federal Home Loan Program

Twenty-Five (25) Homes will be Renovated under the FY-17 FHL Project. This summer the WEHA completed Seven (7) Homes, there is currently One (1) Home under contract with another Seventeen (17) Homes to be completed in FY-18. This is usually a Two-Year Funding Cycle however the WEHA has submitted a FY-18 Application as well, Funding Awards will be announced in February 2018.

Minnesota Home Pinance Agency

During FY-17, the M.H.F.A. conducted an Audit of FY-12 and FY-14 Impact Fund Awards, that audit identified several deficiencies that the WEHA has since corrected. On April 3, 2017, the MHFA completed its review and concluded the response was sufficient to clear these findings. An Application for $250,000 for the Renovation of Twelve (12) Homes was submitted on June 12, 2017, this Funding Award was announced in December 2017.

502 & 504 USDA Loan Program - The WEHA will be assisting the USDA in seeking Applicants for the 502 Home Loan Purchase Program and the 504 Direct Home Loan\Repair Program. These programs will assist Homeowners/Home Buyers that may not qualify for a Bank Loan, MHFA or FHL Programs. The 502 and 504 funds can be combined with other program funding.
