Location: Minneapolis, MN. Close: Until Filled
Pay: $20.42/hr. Benefits: Full Status: Full time
This position is responsible to provide direct peer-to-peer support to individuals and their families in recovery from a substance use disorder, serving as a role model, mentor, educator, and advocate. The Recovery Support Specialist provides peer recovery support services including appropriate education, advocacy, mentoring through self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences, support attending recovery and other support groups, accompany clients to appointments that support recovery, provide assistance accessing resources to obtain housing, employment, education, and advocacy services, and nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community.
Position’s outcomes:
• Provide direct peer-to-peer recovery support services that assist individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their goals.
- Coordinate transportation to recovery-related activities such as appointments or support groups.
- Assist clients in locating and gaining safe sober supportive housing, guiding client toward resources.
- Assist clients in locating and getting involved with job training resources.
- Provide Peer Recovery Support through mentorship and ongoing support to individuals dealing with substance use disorder and connect them with the resources that can support a pathway to recovery.
- Provide critical peer recovery support and intervention services to enhance post-treatment or post-incarceration recovery outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the Program.
- Knowledge of or skilled in seeking knowledge of culturally specific ways of treatment and healing.
- Knowledge of tribal and county health and social services programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Qualifications: - High School Diploma, or its equivalent (G.E.D.)
- One (1) year or more in recovery from substance/opioid use disorder.
- Have Peer Recovery Support certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Cultural knowledge and ability to apply it to individual and group work.
- Ability to respond to crises after business hours and weekends as part of regular on-call scheduling.
- Ability to work in dangerous situations or environment, communities including crisis situations involving substance misuse.
- Valid Driver’s License and insurance for travel between sites and other business-related destinations.
