While upholding and infusing the values and practices of the Anishinabe people, this position will perform advanced therapeutic interventions such as performing diagnostic evaluations of mental disorders utilizing a culturally sensitive approach that takes into consideration the physical, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive components of mental health. Prescribe psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Collaborate with other medical professionals, physicians, therapists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other mental health professionals to discuss client’s development of assessment and evaluations, treatment plans, and progress. Counsel clients on their conditions and medications during appointment encounters. Complete and maintain required paperwork as mandated by state and tribal statutes. Enhance clinical adoption of telehealth and facilitate integration of telemedicine into the tribal mental health system.
Position Outcomes:
- Assess, plan, and provide comprehensive and therapeutic medical mental health care to individual, geriatric, adult, and adolescent (and child when applicable) consumers and their families at a variety of White Earth Clinical sites.
- Provide a multidisciplinary bridge between medical and behavioral health staff, other entities, and community partners and members.
- Participate in medical role as a member of he interdisciplinary Mental Health and MAT teams.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the demographics, culture, customs, and geography of the White Earth Reservation.
- Knowledge of federal laws including Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), government regulations, federal privacy act and agency rules.
- Knowledge of relevant safety measures to promote effective operations for the protection of people, data, and property.
- Maintain competence in and learn about new developing areas in psychiatry and mental health.
Qualifications:
- Must have an M.D or D.O. degree.
- ABPN board certified or eligible in psychiatry with specialty training preferred.
- Must be licensed or licensable in the State of MN.
- Must be licensed or licensable by the White Earth Reservation Tribal Council.
- Must be able to obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and enroll as a Minnesota Health Care
Programs (MHCP) Provider. - Must have a valid DEA.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a DATA waiver.
- Valid Driver’s License and insurance for travel between sites and other related businesses.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening at hire and throughout the year.
