The White Earth Reservation Tribal Council is currently seeking a qualified applicant who will be responsible for protecting citizens by preventing crime, enforcing laws, apprehending suspects, and monitoring traffic. Conducts criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, and interrogating suspects.espond to emergencies, protect people and property, enforce motor vehicle and criminal laws and promote good community relations.
- Arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.
- Patrol specific area on foot or motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls for assistance.
- Investigate traffic accidents and other accidents to determine the cause and to determine if a crime has been committed.
- Obtain written or tape-recorded statements, depositions, or admissions.
- Obtain search warrants and arrest warrants.
- Obtain and verify evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses, or by analyzing records.
- Provides proactive community policing.
- Communicate with internal and external sources to ensure the Public Safety Department is represented in a professional manner.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council and the Public Safety Department.
- Skill in using personal computers and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and internet.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with co-workers, staff and administration.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules and the democratic political process.
- Ability to work cooperatively within a group to make the work of the group successful and effective.
- Skilled in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events.
- Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation demographics, culture, history, and lifestyles.
Qualifications: - Associate degree in law enforcement or related field and graduate of an accredited police academy recognized by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST).
- Must have Full Time POST Board licensure or be eligible to be licensed.
- Must be physically and mentally able to use force to fulfill job duties.
- Valid Driver’s License and insurance for travel between sites and other related businesses.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
