This is a fully experienced professional position; applications must be licensed by their professional board to qualify. Mental Health Professionals have responsibility for independently providing a variety of mental health services for individuals, families, and groups. They are required to be culturally responsive in the development of diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, identification of appropriate treatment methods, and utilization of a variety of applied psychotherapeutic techniques.
Positions outcomes:
- Identify psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues.
- Diagnose psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes.
- Help clients define goals and plan action to achieve personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
- Meet with individuals, families, and groups in clinics, homes, schools, and community settings to develop client centered service plans.
- Cooperates with professionals from other disciplines in the development of team and collaborative diagnoses and treatment programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, substance abuse and various treatment modalities.
- Knowledge of biological, behavioral, and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental health disability, and substance abuse.
- The scope and activities of Tribal, public, and private health and child welfare agencies and other available community, tribal, country, state, and federal resources.
- Tribal laws, Tribal codes, and ability to work within those laws.
- Ability to follow agency policies, rules, and procedures.
- Ability to develop clear and comprehensive case records and documentation. Qualifications:
- Experience: Two years of professional experience working in psychology, mental health counseling, psychotherapy, or related social services field.
- Education: master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related field from and accredited college or university.
- Professional License: Possession of a current license to practice in one of the following fields: psychology, clinical social work, clinical counseling, or marriage and family therapy.
- Qualified applications must have a possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Minnesota Driver’s License, pass a criminal background check, be free of chemical or alcohol abuse problems for at least two years and have knowledge of traditional systems of healing.
