Position: Ojibwe Language & Culture Teacher Open: 03-05-2025
Location: W.E. Circle of Life Academy Close: 03-26-2025
Pay: Teacher Pay Scale Benefits: Full Status: Full-Time
Circle of Life Academy is currently seeking a qualified applicant who will be responsible for instructing students in an assigned subject area in order to ensure the Mission of Circle of Life Academy is met. This position is responsible for development, coordination and delivery of rigorous and meaningful K-12 curriculum in the areas of Anishinaabemowin: Language, and Mino-Bimaadiziwin: Traditional Ways of Life.
Outcomes:

  • Implement classroom and outdoor curriculum, assessments, and learning activities based on our Ojibwe language, history, locality, arts and way of life.
    a. Create and maintain an atmosphere in the classroom that facilitates the learning process to ensure a high level of achievement for all students.
    b. Assign and grade class work and homework, take daily/hourly attendance.
    c. Confer with other teachers to plan for and to integrate the Ojibwe Culture into all areas of curriculum.
    d. Collaborate with outside entities knowledgeable and skilled in the Ojibwe Culture to provide additional experience for students and staff.
    e. Organize and implement annual Anishinaabe activities including but not limited to the Circle of Life Academy Pow-Wow, Round Dance, Wild Ricing
    Sugar Bush.
    f. Maintain the Circle of Life Drum Group.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with administration, teachers, support staff, parents, students, elders and Ojibwe Culture Specialists to ensure the needs of students are met and to maintain a positive and professional teaching and work atmosphere.
    a. Participate in and contribute to assigned committees and groups.
    b. Keep abreast of new trends and teaching methodologies in education through participation in professional development activities including seminars,
    classes, and conferences
  • Maintain a high level of classroom discipline in accordance with classroom and general school rules.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council and the Education Department.
  • Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation history, culture and lifestyles.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual learning styles, and human motivation.
  • Skills at using technology for data collection, reports, and student learning.
  • Skills at communicating in a positive manner with students, staff, parents, and the community-at-large both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and evaluate student data.
  • Ability to identify and apply creative teaching methods.

Qualifications include:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in the subject area or areas and level the candidate is hired to teach.
  • Experience teaching Ojibwe language and culture to K-12 students.
  • Must be eligible for, or in possession of an appropriate Minnesota teaching license.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
