Position Summary: This is an entry level professional position. Clinical trainees are expected to provide clinical services under direct supervision and in consultation with mental health professionals. Responsibilities include providing evidence-based, trauma-focused psychotherapy, diagnostic assessments, trauma-specific assessments of traumatic events and abuse-related trauma to determine need for treatment, providing treatment plans for children and families at the White Earth Tribal Child Advocacy Center, preparing reports, and completing required documentation and other necessary forms as required by White Earth Mental Health and the White Earth Tribal Child Advocacy Center. Clinical trainees must comply with requirements for licensure or board certification as a mental health professional, including supervised practice in the delivery of mental health services for the treatment of mental illness. CAC Clinical Trainee will participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for child abuse victims. Position will be housed within the CAC.
Position Outcomes:
- Identify and diagnose, emotional or behavioral disorders for clients of all ages.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes.
- Help clients define goals and plan action to achieve personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment.
- Provide clinical direction for community based mental health program services such as CTSS and ARMHS.
- Performs crisis intervention as needed
- Performs involuntary hospitalization assessments and arranges for hospitalization, if necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, substance abuse and various treatment modalities.
- Knowledge of biological, behavioral and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental health disability, and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of the scope and activities of tribal, public, and private health and child welfare agencies and other available community, tribal, country, state, and federal resources.
- Ability to prepare treatment plans, client treatment recommendations, and a variety of reports.
- Ability to handle stress and unstable client behavior.
- Ability to recognize a potential crisis and deliver crisis intervention services.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university.
- Must be free of chemical or alcohol abuse problems for at least two years and have knowledge of traditional systems of healing.
- Must have a valid MN Driver's License and proof of insurance for travel between sites
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening
