District III Representative Kenneth “Gus” Bevins was born in White Earth, Minnesota and lived on the White Earth Reservation most of his life. Bevins represents the villages of White Earth, Pine Point and Elbow Lake, and tribal membership in the towns of Callaway and Ogema and the outlying areas.

He attended school at St. Benedict’s Mission, in White Earth, then in St. Paul and later, Waubun High School. Bevins graduated from Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes and was employed by Bob’s Machine and Manufacturing.  Bevins completed training to become a heavy equipment operator and was then employed by the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe’s Construction Company for one year. After that time, he went to work for the White Earth Reservation as the public works director for 21 years until 1997. He is currently the fire chief for the White Earth Fire Department and has served in this position for 29 years. Most recently, he worked for Vareberg Well Drilling and Gordon Construction until being elected District III Representative in June 2000 and re-elected in 2004 and 2008.

Bevins was married to Kathy Heisler until she passed away in 1992. They have one daughter, Shannoah, and two sons, Robert and Kenneth Jr. He is currently married to Alberta “Birdie” Smith who has two sons, Matt and Pete. He is the proud grandfather of 9 wonderful grandchildren.
