Counseling

White Earth Tribal Mental Health has a well trained and highly qualified counseling staff including two mental health professionals, three master level therapists and one contract mental health professional also available.


Cultural Specific Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Our qualified staff has three members that are trained in trauma related treatment protocols, outreach materials and service delivery guidelines specifically designed for American Indian and Alaska Native children and their families. Trauma is an emotional or physical reaction to any event that is witnessed or experienced by a child or adolescent and is disturbing to them.

Examples include events such as:

  • being a victim or physical or sexual abuse
  • witnessing violence within the family or community- murder, gangs, bullying
  • witnessing violence on television, movies or video games
  • loss of a loved one
  • loss of a relative or friend due to suicide
  • exposure to an act of war or terrorism
  • loss or displacement due to a natural disaster- fire, tornado, earthquake, hurricane

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Our qualified staff has four members trained in PCIT. PCIT is an empirically supported treatment for preschool children, ages 2-7, with with disruptive behavior. It emphasizes changing the parent- child interactions to improve the nature of the relationship. Parents who participate in PCIT with their children are taught specific skills to develop a strong positive relationship with their child while increasing the child's pro social behavior and reducing the child's undesirable behaviors. PCIT has also been shown to be an effective treatment for children are 4-12 with a history of physical abuse or neglect, and for families and children with prenatal substance exposure.


Diagnostic Assessments

Our highly trained staff has four members who provide diagnostic assessments to children 0-3. The mental health professionals and counseling staff can all provide diagnostic assessments to children ages six and up.

Assessments include:

  • IQ testing
  • Cognitive Testing
  • Diagnostic Testing
