White Earth Election Board removes three election board members

On March 31, 2016 the White Earth Tribal Council called a special meeting to discuss an investigation related to certain actions of the White Earth Election Board and to determine its outcome. In this meeting, the Tribal Council decided to remove three election board members, which included the election board chair. This action was taken because of allegations related to violations of MCT Election Ordinance, Section 1.7(E). The Tribal Council understands this decision is close to the election, Tuesday, April 5, 2016; however, the electoral process must be upheld.

While this change is sudden, the Tribal Council wants to assure White Earth Band Members that the election will continue without delay. Moreover, a candidate provided White Earth voters with an incomplete absentee ballot request form, which spoiled their absentee ballot request. Unfortunately, this candidate's contact with the Election Board led to the violation of Section 1.7(E).

The Tribal Council thanks the Board Members affected for their years of service and dedication.
